Prayer and picnic!
Yesterday was great for a number of reasons! It started off at Booth House Lifehouse - where we gathered together to pray. We received the Olympic prayer torch that is being passed around Salvation Army centres and churches in London. We prayed for the work of Booth House and Hope Town before heading up Whitechapel Road with the torch on our way to Stepney Park. At the park we had a picnic - dodging the rain showers and enjoying good food and great company. We even sang some songs accompanied by a banjo, mandolin, guitar, bongos and a harmonica! Good times - God with us, between us and in us.

Soul in the City: Housing in Stepney
We considered the 'good news' in relation to housing in Stepney on Sunday (the photo shows our prayers in the very fabric of our community). We wondered if Jesus lived in Stepney in 2012 his telling of the parable might have gone like this! (Matthew 7:24-27)
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise developer who built his block of flats on affordability for ordinary people. The financial storm came down, the jobs dried up and the hard economic times beat against that block; yet it enabled the community to stand, because it had its foundation on people. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like the foolish developer who built his block of flats on profit alone. The financial storm came down, the jobs dried up and the hard economic times beat against that block, and it became an empty, soulless place that provided homes for the rich few who could afford it, and it contributed to the community falling with a great crash.

Stand Up and Take Charge!
With an election for London Mayor just around the corner, we and our partners in London Citizens are calling Londoners to 'stand up and take charge' of the agenda. Tomorrow night is the big assembly night, when in Westminster, we will take our place with 2000 others and challenge the mayoral candidates to support our agenda. We simply ask for Safer streets, affordable housing, a living wage, better governance and more jobs. And we don't just demand these things - unlike others we offer simple solutions to how these can come to be and we mobilise ourselves to make it happen in partnership with the mayor and their team. Check out how you can support this agenda by signing up to the people's agenda.
